One of the things that makes The 5th Avenue Theatre truly special is our dedication to nurturing and inspiring the next generation of theater lovers. Our Educational Touring Company is currently presenting Songs of the Moon: Fantastical Folktales from Asia, a world premiere production, to more than 20,000 students across the Pacific Northwest. This is often the first opportunity for many students to experience the joy and power of musical theater. So every ticket you purchase, every dollar you give, every time you choose to support The 5th helps strengthen our community. Together, we’re bringing the magic of musical theater to schools, community centers, and beyond, building a brighter artistic future for our entire region. You can learn more or find a public performance at 5thavenue.org/education/schools/.

We’re also celebrating Subscriber Appreciation Month. Subscribing to The 5th is the best way to experience all we have to offer, season after season. Along with priority seating and exclusive benefits like fee-free exchanges on subscription tickets ticket exchanges and free parking (on full season packages), subscribers immerse themselves in the full spectrum of our musical theater programming. If you love what you see on stage, I warmly invite you to join us as a subscriber to make the most of the most of your experience at The 5th Avenue Theatre..

We’re especially proud this season to be one of the few premier regional theaters producing an original staging of Waitress. Our dedicated cast, creative team, staff, and crew have poured their hearts into reimagining this Broadway sensation for our stage. I know you’ll feel their passion and commitment as the story unfolds before you.

Female Creatives on Broadway

By Beth Pollack

The 2007 film Waitress was the brainchild of Adrienne Shelly, an independent film actor and director. Shelley wrote the screenplay for Waitress, directed and co-starred in it, co-costumed and co-set designed the film, and composed a song for the soundtrack. With such a strong female hand guiding the film’s production at every step of the process, it might seem like a foregone conclusion that a musical adaptation should be also helmed by female artists. However, Waitress made history when it opened on Broadway in 2016 with the first ever all-female creative team: Jessie Nelson (Book), Sara Bareilles (Music & Lyrics), Diane Paulus (Director), and Lorin Latarro (Choreographer). Here at The 5th Avenue Theatre, we are proud to carry on that tradition with an all-female directing and choreography team as well as several female designers.

All The Worlds A Pie

Have you ever wondered how much pie is needed for Waitress?
We sat down with Production Prop Head, Tristan Hansen, to talk about the process of creating pie props.

3 tech rehearsals
+ 2 orchestra dress rehearsals
+ 3 preview performances
+ 17 performances
x 3 slices of pie per night
= 75-81 pie slices total
