April in the Bay Area offers a diverse selection of accessible performances, including ASL-interpreted, audio-described, and captioned choices. Notable shows include Six, a musical about the wives of Henry VIII; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater showcasing vibrant cultural performances; and Fat Ham, a modern take on Hamlet. There are also opportunities to experience Jersey Boys at Palo Alto Players, Here There Are Blueberries at Berkeley Rep, and The Heart Sellers at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, with various inclusive performances. Plus, Brazil’s riveting Grupo Corpo makes its Cal Performances debut with audio description.

This week, enjoy the romantic musicality of Brahams and Shostakovich, catch the closing weekend of a comedic musical at A.C.T., and see a new version of a classic Shakespeare play at San Francisco Playhouse.

San Francisco Opera leaves the Opera House and tours the Bay Area. Plus, TheatreWorks’ Gala 54 is selling out fast.

  • San Francisco Opera announces the return of Out of the Box, with performances of La Bohème at outdoor locations throughout the Bay Area this spring. An abridged version of this opera will be presented to the public for free, performed by guest artists and San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellows with piano accompaniment. Performances begin on April 26 in Sausalito and will continue to June 29 in Hayward.
  • TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announces that Shakina will be the emcee for their Gala 54. Shakina, a talented lyricist and actor in their upcoming production of 5 & Dime, is known for her memorable roles on TV and in theatre. The Gala 54 takes place on May 4 and limited tickets are available. The Gala aims to raise funds to support mainstage productions, new works development, and educational programming.
