A new opera unveiled and two theatres unite

Peek behind the curtain of Seattle Opera’s “Jubilee,” ACT and Seattle Shakespeare announce a joint production, and Seattle Rep is time traveling with “The Skin of Our Teeth.”

A new opera unveiled and two theatres unite
At a recent Klezmer Jam, vocalist Sarah Larrson and accordionist Josh Rosard lead violinist Christopher Mena, keyboardist Fiore Grey, clarinetist Shaun Burley, and guitarist Jeff Treistman through several Yiddish tunes.

In Seattle, music is more than just a form of expression—it’s a way to build community and preserve cultural heritage. Whether it’s through spontaneous jam sessions or educational partnerships, local artists are coming together to celebrate the rich traditions of Klezmer and Black American music. At the heart of these efforts is The Rhapsody Project, an organization that honors folk and roots music while using it as a tool for social change. From monthly Klezmer Jams to collaborative projects with Seattle Opera, these initiatives are uniting musicians and audiences in meaningful ways.

“What differentiates us from other music organizations is that we not only play music and teach music but build community with music.” — Joe Seamons

It’s an exciting new chapter for both companies, and a great chance to see a fresh take on a classic!
  • Tacoma Arts Live has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to support their Accelerating Creative Enterprise (ACE) program. • October is Bullying Prevention Month, and Taproot Theatre’s Road Company is hitting the road with their powerful bullying prevention plays and assemblies. Throughout this month and the entire 2024/2025 school year, they’ll be visiting schools across the region, offering performances for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. These shows are all about teaching empathy, celebrating differences, building resilience, and encouraging students to stand up against bullying.
