Welcome from SFGMC
Dear SFGMC Family,
The love and support we feel from you tonight is the fuel we need to continue our resolve to build community, foster compassion, and inspire activism. We know the mission and message of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus is as important now as it ever has been.
This season’s theme, “Together,” came about as we considered the needs of our community in the year to come. Unsure of what the future might hold, we kept asking ourselves, “How are we going to get through this?” The answer we always came back to: “We’ll get through this together”.
As we gather this holiday season, we are reminded of the strength we find in one another. Through song, we celebrate not just the joy of the season but the power of connection and the resilience of our shared journey. Our voices are a beacon of hope, resilience, and unwavering solidarity.
Together, we stand against hate and fear with compassion and courage. Together, we lift each other up, amplify the stories that must be told, and create a space where all are welcomed and valued. Together, we create a world where love and music pave the way for a brighter future.
Thank you for being here tonight, for standing with us, and for making our mission possible. Let us carry the spirit of “Together” into the year ahead and continue to make music, create change, and lift each other up.
Now, buckle up—this SLAY is leaving the North Pole and headed straight for your heart! We hope you love this show and that it brings you the light and life you need this holiday season.
With gratitude and joy,
Christopher Verdugo (CEO) & Jacob Stensberg (Artistic Director)

Our Mission
To lead by creating extraordinary music and experiences that build community, inspire activism, and foster compassion at home and around the world.
For 45 years, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus has served as an international standard bearer for a powerful mix of musical excellence and mission-driven activism. Founded in 1978, SFGMC was the first choral organization to courageously proclaim its orientation in its name and is credited with helping start the LGBTQIA+ choral movement that now spans the entire globe, galvanizing and changing the course of LGBTQIA+ history.
Our Vision
We envision a world inspired and unified by the music we create.
Our Values
We believe in the transformative power of music to heal, to enlighten and to foster unity.
We embrace the life affirming changes we create within and beyond our chorus community.
We evolve society’s views toward LGBTQ people through our commitment to excellence.
We honor all who came before us and whose sacrifices made it possible for us to raise our voices.

Chris Verdugo has been the CEO of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus since 2016. His visionary leadership led the organization through a capital campaign, increasing the organization’s budget by 500% and creating the opportunity to purchase and open the Chan National Queer Arts Center - the first arts center of its kind in the nation. Overseeing a full-time staff of 10, Chris also led the Lavender Pen Tour through the Deep South, promoting dialogue and acceptance for LGBTQ+ communities and individuals.
Previously, he served as the Executive Director of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, where he built an international reputation for musical excellence, doubled GMCLA’s budget, and created education programs in Los Angeles’ high schools. He has worked with leading queer organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Equality California, GLAAD (formerly the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), Beinestar, and Queer Lounge at the Sundance Film Festival.
Jacob Stensberg
Artistic Director & Conductor
Jacob Stensberg is thrilled to be ushering in his second season as the conductor and artistic director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus and the Chan National Queer Arts Center. Mr. Stensberg’s inaugural season with the SFGMC included a record-setting Holiday Spectacular, two record-setting spring performances of Disney PRIDE in Concert, and his debut conducting the San Francisco Symphony in partnership with SFGMC last July on Hello Yellow Brick Road. He received his formal and formative training from Dr. Kristina Boerger at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where he earned a bachelor of music education. He earned his master of music in conducting.
