Welcome

A Note From Seattle Theatre Group

On behalf of Seattle Theatre Group’s staff, board, and volunteers, welcome to the historic Paramount Theatre and this performance of Wicked. Wicked has played this theatre many times since 2006, and we’re grateful to the producers and artists who have made it a Paramount tradition.

We’re thrilled that you’re here to experience Wicked, whether you’re returning to marvel in its magic for a second or third go or if it’s your first time meeting Elphaba and Glinda onstage. There’s much to be said about Wicked, a story that centers on the power of friendship, identity, and staying true to yourself. Moving and electrifying songs like “Popular,” “Defying Gravity,” and “For Good,” have become staples in the musical theater songbook, and the story’s emphasis on belonging and acceptance has given the show staying power that continues to inspire generations of theater lovers worldwide.

In the spirit of Elphaba’s headstrong dedication to stay true to herself, we are proud to offer a Sensory-Friendly Performance of Wicked on Saturday, November 16 at 2:00pm. All are welcome at Seattle Theatre Group, and we’re committed to creating opportunities for everyone to have transformative and meaningful arts experiences—it’s at the heart of what we do. Sensory-friendly and inclusive performances are designed to provide a supportive and judgment-free environment for people affected by sensory processing differences so they and their friends and family can enjoy the shared experience of live theatre. Some theater modifications include ASL interpretation, lower sound levels, reduction of strobe lighting, and designated quiet and activity areas that have sensory supports. We know the impact of these performances is significant and, in many cases, allows individuals who rarely or might never have opportunities to experience the performing arts to do so safely and comfortably. If you’re reading this while attending the sensory-friendly performance, I want to extend an extra special welcome to you and emphasize how important it is to everyone at STG and the Wicked family that you are here and have a fabulous experience!

I’m proud of the work we do to make the arts accessible to all the communities we serve. You—the person who walked through the theater doors and is sitting in the seat you’re in right now—are an integral part of our mission. The person to your left, your right, and in every direction around you, reflects why the arts matter. The arts don’t exist without an audience, and STG doesn’t exist without you! We hope you’re inspired by the magic of this performance and look forward to welcoming you back to the Paramount and our other venues (The Moore, The Neptune, and Remlinger Farms) in the future.

Kindest Regards,

Josh LaBelle
Executive Director
Seattle Theatre Group
